World's largest intact caldera · Big Five · Black rhino
Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera — a natural amphitheatre spanning 260 km² with walls rising 600 metres from the crater floor. It is one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five in a single day.
The crater is home to approximately 25,000 large animals, including the rare black rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo and hippo — all living in a self-contained ecosystem that has been called the "Garden of Eden."
